Marengo County VINELink Coverage
Alabama has two related notification paths: the Alabama VINELink portal and the Alabama Victim Notification System. VINELink is a custody-status and notification portal. Alabama VNS is more specific to offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison, meaning ADOC custody. VNS itself directs pretrial or not-yet-tried matters to the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred.
That distinction is important in Marengo County because no official public 24-hour or 72-hour jail release feed was found in the sheriff website, OCV site, or public app manifest reviewed in the research. A VINELink or VNS result may alert a custody change, but the Marengo County release record still comes from the sheriff's prisoner book, the court case, ADOC, or ABPP depending on the custody path.

The state portal should be used as a notification and status tool, then checked against the record-holding agency.
Search a Marengo County Inmate
VINELink works best when the search is focused on one person. Name searches can produce multiple matches, and similar names require careful comparison. If an ID is available, use it. If the person was booked only in Marengo County jail and never sentenced to ADOC, VINELink or VNS may not be the complete path. Start with the status result, then confirm with the local jail or court.

- Open the record and review the current custody-status information or release event shown.

For ADOC-sentenced inmates, ADOC's current-inmate search may also help while the person remains incarcerated. After release, ADOC's public search may no longer show the person because it is not a historical released-inmate locator.
What VINELink Shows
A VINELink or VNS result is about custody status and notification, not every field in the jail release record. A county jail release can mean bond, time served, dismissal, transfer, sentence completion, or another agency hold. A state-prison release can mean parole, mandatory supervision, end of sentence, or another supervised status. The notification tells the user to look for the custody change; it does not replace the release order.

For Marengo County, the statutory jail release fields still come from Alabama's sheriff prisoner-book requirement: commitment information and order and date of release. VINELink does not create those local jail fields.

Alabama VNS registration is notification-focused. The VNS FAQ says victims and concerned citizens can receive future notifications and update contact information. The new-user profile page shows notification choices including email, text message, U.S. Mail, and certified mail for certain people. The reviewed Alabama VNS pages did not confirm a fixed phone PIN rule for this build. Some notification systems use confirmation prompts, codes, or PINs, but Marengo County copy should not state one as an Alabama-specific requirement unless the system assigns it during registration. Follow the live prompts and keep any confirmation information the system provides.

County Jail vs State Prison
For a person released from Marengo County Detention Center before trial or after a short local sentence, the county jail and court remain the main record holders. The sheriff's office can address the jail prisoner record. The Marengo County Circuit Clerk can show court actions such as bond, sentence, probation, dismissal, jail credit, revocation, or warrant activity. VINELink may help only if the agency feed covers the person and status.
For a person sentenced from Marengo County to ADOC, the sequence changes. ADOC is useful while the person remains in state custody. VNS and VINELink can support notification. VINELink Limits in Marengo County
VINELink does not replace federal, immigration, or court systems. BOP has its own locator for federal sentenced prisoners. ICE has a separate online detainee locator for current immigration custody. USMS custody is usually confirmed through the federal docket, the holding facility, or the relevant district contact. A person released from Marengo County jail to another agency may need two confirmations: the county release and the later agency custody status.
Data can lag, and restricted records may not appear. Expunged, sealed, juvenile, or Youthful Offender Act matters can reduce public visibility. Note: A no-result search is not proof that no Marengo County custody event occurred.
