Marengo County Released Inmates
A released person has left Marengo County jail custody, but the reason for that release can vary. Marengo County does not publish an official online 24-hour or 72-hour release roster in the sheriff sources reviewed. That absence should not be read as proof that no release occurred. It means the search has to use the jail record, the Marengo County Circuit Clerk record, state notification systems, and records requests. A live custody roster, where one exists, is for people who are still in custody. Marengo County Release Types

Note: A transfer can look like a release in a county record even when the person is not free from all custody.
Marengo County Release Record Fields
Alabama Code Section 36-22-8 gives the local release record its clearest field list. The sheriff must keep a prisoner book in the office, open to public inspection during office hours, with a description of each prisoner received into the county jail. For release work, the most important entries are the order and date of commitment and the order and date of release. The Handbook for Alabama Sheriffs also describes related duties to report discharge to the circuit clerk and preserve the process or order by which the inmate was committed or discharged.

The record may be narrow. It can confirm a release date without telling the full story of the case. For that reason, a Marengo County court search often has to be read beside the jail record. Marengo County Release Record Law
Alabama's public-records anchor is Section 36-12-40 and related Article 3 provisions, which address access to public writings unless another law limits access. For jail release records, Section 36-22-8 is the better release-specific citation because it requires the sheriff's prisoner book and includes the order and date of release. Alabama Code Section 14-6-1 also supports the sheriff's role as the local jail custodian.
Some records will not be public in the same way. ALEA explains that Alabama expungement is granted by a court under Section 15-27 in certain circumstances. Juvenile, Youthful Offender Act, sealed, expunged, and restricted records can be missing from public search systems. Missing online results should be treated with care. It may mean the record is not online, the person was handled by a different agency, the name is misspelled, or the public record is restricted.
Find Released Marengo County Inmates
The best search path starts local and then branches. Marengo County's official sheriff pages and OCV app manifest did not show a public recent-release module, so a same-day lookup should not stop at the website. The sheriff's jail record confirms the local custody event. The court case explains bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, revocation, or transfer. ADOC helps only if the person entered state prison custody, and its public search is for current inmates rather than a full historical archive. BOP and ICE are separate federal systems.
- Check whether the person is still in local custody or has already left the jail record.
- Use the sheriff's office to request the county release entry when no online release feed exists.
- Search the Marengo County court case for the order or disposition that explains why custody ended.
- Use ADOC only when the person was sentenced or transferred to state prison custody.
- Use Alabama VNS, VINELink, or ABPP if notification or supervision records apply.
- Use BOP, ICE, USMS, or the federal docket only when the release path became federal or immigration related.

ADOC Search for Marengo Releases
The Alabama Department of Corrections inmate search is useful for a Marengo County case only after the person enters ADOC custody. ADOC states that the public search is for currently incarcerated inmates and that historical data is not available online. That matters for released inmates. A person released from county jail may never appear in ADOC. A person released from state prison may drop out of the public ADOC search after release, leaving VNS, ABPP, court records, or an ADOC records request as the better path.
The ADOC definitions page names several fields that help connect a state record back to a Marengo County case. The AIS number is the quickest single-person search field when known. First and last name searches can help when the AIS number is not known. Marengo County Recent Releases
No official Marengo County 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found on the older sheriff website, the newer OCV-backed sheriff site, the public OCV manifest, or the app-store listings reviewed. The older jail page gives visitation, telephone, and inmate funds information, but not a roster. The public app manifest shows communication features such as map, contact, welcome, slider, footer, and download views, not an inmate roster or release module. That is a county-specific finding, not a general Alabama rule.
The sheriff jail page still has a release-related fact worth using. It says inmates surrender money at committal, may use funds for commissary or release money to an outside source while incarcerated, and may return seven to thirteen days after release to obtain the balance owed. Pickup days and times are set by the commissary officer and may change. That detail does not confirm a release for a named person, but it shows that post-release jail procedures exist even without an online release list.

Marengo Court Records Explain Release
The Circuit Clerk record is unusually important in Marengo County because no official recent-release feed was located. A jail release date can show when custody ended, but the docket may show why. Look for bond orders, appearance-bond entries, preliminary-hearing results, indictment or no-bill action, plea, dismissal, nolle prosequi, sentence, jail credit, split sentence, probation order, revocation order, warrant recall, and failure-to-appear activity.
The Marengo County Circuit Clerk page says the office maintains records across divisions including criminal, traffic, juvenile, and warrants, and that records are electronically imaged. Most trial-court information may be obtained through Alacourt or Just One Look. For a release search, the best practice is to compare the jail release date with the court action near that date.
Marengo Release Supervision Checks
A person released from jail or prison may still have parole, probation, mandatory supervision, or post-release supervision. Marengo County is served by the ABPP Demopolis Field Office. ABPP's field-office list identifies Demopolis for Marengo County, and the office page lists phone 334-654-8630, fax 334-289-7146, and weekday hours. ABPP's 2022 office news places the office at 1064 Bailey Drive in Demopolis and says it serves Greene, Marengo, and Sumter clients.
Parole and probation are not the same. Parole follows a prison sentence and a board process. Probation is a court-ordered supervision sentence or condition. Marengo Release Notifications
Alabama has two notification layers. Alabama VNS is for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison, which means ADOC custody. It says pretrial or not-yet-tried matters should be directed to the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred. VINELink's Alabama portal is a custody-status and notification tool, but it should not be described as a complete Marengo County released-inmate archive unless a specific Marengo jail feed is confirmed inside that system.
Federal and immigration releases use different systems. BOP's locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. BOP explains that if a release date is in the past and no facility appears, the release occurred and the person is no longer in BOP custody. ICE ODLS is for current immigration custody and some recent custody scenarios, not for a Marengo County release list. USMS custody is usually confirmed through the federal docket, the holding facility, or USMS district contact.
Marengo Jail and ICE Holds
A historic TRAC table includes "MARENGO COUNTY JAIL" with one ICE-detainer entry in the displayed data. That is a narrow finding. It does not prove a current ICE detention contract, a routine ICE release feed, or an active county immigration roster. The practical point is simpler: release from Marengo County jail and custody by ICE are two separate events. The county record may show a release or transfer. ICE custody, if it exists, has to be checked through ICE ODLS or other immigration records.
Use this distinction when a person appears to have left the jail but cannot be located in the expected local or state system. A county hold, federal hold, immigration detainer, or transport event can end one custody record while starting another. Marengo Expunged Release Records
A missing public record is not a clean factual answer by itself. ALEA says Alabama Code Section 15-27 allows expungement of criminal records in certain circumstances and that an Alabama court grants expungements. Section 15-27-1 addresses petitions for certain misdemeanors, violations, traffic violations, and municipal ordinance violations. Public search results can also be affected by juvenile status, Youthful Offender Act status, sealed records, out-of-state registry limits, or agency policy.
